Basic techniques of kayaking

The basic technique of kayaking can be roughly divided into 4 parts: inserting the oar (entering the water), pulling the oar, releasing the oar, and pushing the oar (swinging the oar). But paddling techniques are different in kayaks and rowboats.

The kayak paddling technique is to put the right hand above the right shoulder, bend the elbow outward, and relax the left hand to make the paddle as close as possible to the side of the boat. When inserting the oar, push the right hand forward flatly, and quickly insert the oar blade into the water with the left hand downward. With the help of the strength of the waist and back muscles and the kick of the left leg during the rotation, the left hand is drawn back to the waist along the side of the boat at the height of the hip bone parallel to the water surface to complete the action of pulling the oar. The right hand moves from bending to pushing forward and straightening as the left hand pulls the oar. After pulling the paddle, quickly raise the left hand, turn the wrist outward and move it to the left shoulder. At this time, the paddle has been lifted out of the water, and the 4 strokes of the paddling cycle are completed. When the right paddle is inserted into the water, the next paddling cycle begins.

The paddling technique of the rowing boat is to bend the upper body forward, bend the upper arm slightly, extend the lower hand forward as much as possible, combine with the forward extension of the lower shoulder and press down, and straighten the upper hand forward so that the blade and the water surface form an angle of 65-75° quickly. Insert the paddle into the water. Through the rotation and lifting force of the waist, shoulder and back muscles, the trunk drives the two arms to pull the paddle, so that the boat can obtain the maximum forward force. When the action of pulling the oar ends at the waist position, quickly turn the lower wrist inward to pull the oar, with the elbow outward, and lift the oar blade out of the water with the upper hand upward. As soon as the paddle leaves the water, bend your upper hand slightly, bend your torso forward, and move your lower hand from bending to straight swinging the paddle forward to complete the paddle pushing action; then insert the paddle again to start the next cycle of motion.

At present, there are several different paddling techniques in the world: ① There are three types of kayak techniques: Hungarian technique, German technique and Scandinavian technique. ② There are three types of rowing boats: Czechoslovak technology, Canadian technology and Swedish technology.
